Vaporeon, Seel & a Team Mystic trainer I’ve named Naia. I have been dreading doing a piece like this, elaborate background, multiple elements, high contrast. I did the sketch and I intimidated myself. But I pushed through and I’m pretty proud. Her pose is so fluid, the values match, the colors don’t clash. I still don’t understand complex color theory but I feel like my instincts are getting better. I’ve never been prouder of a pair of legs and hands. I mean LOOK AT THAT SHADING. The Pokémons were harder though because they don’t exist so my references were pretty limited. I made an executive decision to make a thick Vaporeon because as a sea Pokémon, he’s gonna depend on blubber to keep warm in cold water, and the Seel kind of looks like a pug and ugh I love this. I find water scenes inspiring. Also now that I have a Team Valor and Team Mystic painting I might eventually do a Team Instinct just to have the complete set.
